In this work I explore the role of the stain as a trace of the fallible nature of the body. As it documents our perpetual death and inevitable disabling. Stains indicate the fallible, the imperfect nature of the body, as shaking hands spill oil onto a blouse, a vulnerable cut seeps blood into sheets, and inevitable incontinence marks a pair of underwear with shit. They remind us of our refuse, walking a thin line between ability, containment, abjection, and rejection. Reliquary Quilt explores the role of the stain as a vibrant “historical” record that documents the slippages of our imperfect bodies. A queer, nonlinear, and opaque record that materializes memory and marks our bodies in time and space through trace.
