Following the invention of the Gutenberg printing press in 1450, the previously fluid and folkloric nature of the spoken word transformed into something regimented, contained, and categorical. With the dissemination of the printed word, this anomalous interpretation of words—and the world—has since established printed language as inherently authoritative and truthful.
